Meet Kelly: A Small Town, Working Mom

My name is Kelly and I was raised and reside in the small town of Marysville, Michigan – just south of Port Huron and just under an hour north of Detroit. I am a new mom to an 8 month active, inquisitive and beautiful baby girl named Finley, and step-mom an intelligent, compassionate and fun IMG_57945-year-old, Lailah. My boyfriend, Mike, and I have been together 4 fun-filled, crazy years – and I wouldn’t change one minute. IMG_5796

I help manage my family’s restaurant, Junction Buoy. It’s a small restaurant on the St. Clair River that has been owned and operated by my mother and grandmother for nearly 33 years. I love what I do and I’m very lucky to work alongside my family – The Buoy has grown very close to my heart over the last few years.

I’m a Spartan and lover of all things MSU! Go Green! I’m a passionate person, I’m strong willed and loyal and I love my family and friends more than anything. I’m sarcastic and witty, honest and caring. I’m excited to be part of the DMB Family and connect with moms from different backgrounds that are on a similar journey.

Here are 5 things that I love about my hometown:

  1. Junction Buoy – It wouldn’t be right if my family’s restaurant didn’t make my {Favorites List}, right? Perfectly placed on the St. Clair River is the only waterfront restaurant in Marysville serving American favorites from burgers to sirloin to our specialty, Fresh Great Lakes Fish. Watch the freighters pass by from just about any seat in the house, including a full service deck. You’ll surely feel like family from the minute you walk in the door!
  2. The St. Clair River  – It’s beautiful and it’s always changing! The freighters, the wildlife, the ice jams in the winter…there’s aIMG_5793lways something to take your breath away. I almost forgot to mention: you can see Canada on the other side! Be sure to bring your camera along while you’re enjoying Marysville’s waterfront park and/or splash pad, enjoying a riverside lunch or building sand castles on our newly renovated beach
  3. Blue Water Bridge – Living near the Blue Water Bridge is something a lot of people from my area probably take for granted. There’s something so relaxing about visiting the boardwalk at night, looking up at the massive bridges and listening to the waves. If you’re into biking, I highly suggest the Bay to Bridge Trail!
  4. Seasonal Events – Port Huron’s Blue Water Fest, St. Clair Riverfest, Volleygrass, Float Down and Art in the Park are some of the major events we have during summer weekends in our area. It draws a lot of people from the surrounding areas to our community, and it’s always a party! Check out the Family Night (usually the first night of the event weekend) during the Port Huron and St. Clair Boat Race weekends. In the winter, bring your kids to the Marysville Christmas in the Park Display and Chilly Fest in Port Huron!
  5. Sense of Community – Our area has a very strong sense of community. Everyone knows each other, everyone looks out for one another, and everyone comes together during a time of need. I value this aspect of my area, especially since it’s often easier to focus on the negatives of the world. I hope my kids learn to appreciate this aspect as much as I have and love calling the Blue Water Area their home.

Plan a day trip for your family to the Blue Water Area, you won’t regret it!

Been to the area? Where are your favorite places to visit?
