Meet Kristine, A Bloomfield Hills Mom!

Hi! I am Kristine, mama to two energetic and spirited toddlers and wife to my tech loving, entrepreneurial husband, Jason. As a native Michigander and metro Detroit business owner, I truly believe Detroit Hustles Harder. I am proud to live in metro Detroit.

I grew up in Clarkston and attended Michigan State (Go Green! Go White!). Before meeting my husband I spent some great years in Royal Oak. I now live, work and play in Bloomfield Hills.

Here are some of my favorite fun spots around my town:

Cranbrook Institute of Science: The Cranbrook Institute of Science is a great place to get the toddler brain firing and energy expended! The science museum exhibits are typically great and informative for kids. The current Superheroes of the Night exhibit is a lot of fun and there are some great ones coming soon (think rainforest adventures and prehistoric sharks!) The planetarium has special showings for little ones and the standing exhibits have great hands on features. And in case you did not know, admission is free the first Friday of each month after 5 p.m.

The Cranbrook House and Gardens: On a sunny spring day or crisp fall afternoon, the Cranbrook grounds are beautiful for walking (or chasing toddlers) and provide natural beauty with plants and flowers as well as gorgeous fountains and sculptures. Our kids love to run, explore, and play pretend through the many paths. This excursion is better for walkers, as navigating a stroller through the bumpy paths can be difficult.

EL Johnson Nature Center: The nature center is another spot to let the kids run, touch, and explore. The grounds consist of over two miles of trails with lots of local wildlife such as deer, birds, fish (and sometimes snakes!). There are also wildlife pens with injured deer and hawks where the kids can have an up close look. My kids’ favorite spot at the nature center is an old log cabin (an 1800’s homestead to be exact) hosting a see saw, pot for old fashioned cooking, and wagon.

Sweet Earth Yogurt Shop: Although Sweet Earth is in Birmingham versus Bloomfield Hills, it is a definite on my list. Sweet Earth is a great, healthy and tasty spot my whole family loves. The kids love the opportunity to select their own yogurt flavors and toppings and we have fun tasting each other’s creations. Even better, the shop is located between two great parks making for a great afternoon outing during the warmer weather. Look for the birthday cake or pumpkin spice flavors…yum!

The Barre Code: After all of the family spots I had to include my “me” place. I discovered the Barre Code this fall and have been hooked every since. It is a great place to sweat and feel strong! When I am at the studio it is easy to focus only on myself, pushing my own personal limits, and channeling my inner strength.

Hi! I am Kristine, mama to two spirited, creative and fiercely independent toddlers. I am also a clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders and a mental health advocate. I have not yet found the solution to “mommy guilt” nor struck the elusive work/life balance, but I love what I do and am learning to embrace where I am now. I don't believe parenting is possible without a village of love and support, and I am eternally grateful for mine. I do my best to sweat once a day, breathe deeply, and connect with those I care about most. I can never get enough coffee or Anthroplogie. I believe strongly in collaboration and surrounding myself with strong women, which has led me to this latest blogging adventure with Detroit Moms Blog. I look forward to sharing and learning with you!
