The DMB’s of Courtney Eastman, An Introduction.

Hi Metro Detroit Moms!  I’m so excited to be part of this team. A little about me…I am an accidental stay-at-home mom to three beautiful kiddos: two very busy little men – ages 5 and 3 – and an adorably sweet and cuddly ten month old princess. I never imagined that I would put my career as an attorney on hold to be a full-time momma, but here I am!

Introducing the DMB's of Courtney

My oldest son, GJ, is currently in Young Fives Kindergarten, which has been a fantastic transitional year between preschool and traditional kindergarten for him. He is my strong-willed little negotiator, which has made for some pretty challenging and creative parenting. GJ has an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He has taught me more about snakes, dinosaurs and aquatic life than I could have ever possibly imagined!

My middle child, DJ, just turned three. He is ALL BOY. I am not joking when I say that he literally swung from my dining room chandelier last winter, after being stuck indoors for the better part of a bitter cold week. Despite that unfortunate incident (and a few others involving his brother/partner in crime), DJ is an adorably sweet little boy.

AB is my baby girl, turning one in June. I can’t even believe how fast her first year has gone! I was terrified at the prospect of having three children, to be completely honest. The transition from one to two children was incredibly challenging for me. I’m here to tell you: if you can manage two, three is a piece of cake! This might have to do with the fact that my little AB is an amazingly easy going baby. She cheerfully welcomes the daily chaos that ensues in our very busy household.

Staying at home with wee ones is not anything like I imagined it would be. Make no mistake, it is a JOB. Frankly, it’s the hardest job that I’ve ever had. Some days are filled with laughter, silliness and wonder, while others are tantrum laden, poopy-diaper-filled messes! It’s been almost six years, and I’m still learning every day how to get it right. The most important thing for me has been the ability to connect with other moms.

When I had my first baby, my husband Jeff and I – both native Metro Detroiters – had recently relocated to Hudson, Ohio. We didn’t know a soul. I was a new stay-at-home mom in a new city, and I was terrified! Fortunately, after a few bumps and bruises, I met some great people and was able to establish a support system in my home away from home. How I would have LOVED to have a blog like Detroit Moms Blog back then! It would have made my life much easier. That’s why I think this blog is so amazing. Whatever you may be encountering as a parent, however good or bad your day has been, there is always another mom out there facing similar frustrations, or reveling in the same joys. And – at least for me – when we connect with other moms in our community, we discover and learn so much more about this beautiful, messy journey that is motherhood, thereby enriching our lives and ourselves.
